Taking care of your towels and bathrobes

Taking care of your towels and bathrobes

Washing

We highly recommend to wash your towels and bathrobes at home , chosing a biodegradable liquid detergent, we do not advise to send your towels to Laundry.

Wash towels on the gentle cycle. Generally speaking towels do not get very dirty because you dry yourself when you are clean. So they only require gentle washing which helps prolong the life and fluffiness of the towel.

Detergent

Wash your towels and bathrobes in a pure soap that does not contain fabric brighteners (code for bleach) or fabric conditioners (code for reduced absorbency). Use the smallest amount of soap possible, probably half of what you think you need or the manufacturer recommends. Towels respond well to oxygen bleach (colour safe if necessary) in every second or third wash. It keeps the colours bright and the whites white.

DO NOT, let us repeat, DO NOT use any form of fabric conditioner or soap with fabric conditioner to wash your towels. Fabric conditioner substantially reduces the absorbency of your towels.

Drying

To keep your towels soft and fluffy dry them in a tumble dryer or finish them in a tumble dryer. This will raise the pile for a soft fluffy feel.If you line dry your towels and prefer a softer fluffy feel we advise you to "flick" your towels before hanging them on the line. Hold them on the end and flick them so they snap (like cracking a whip). Do this on both ends and the pile will stand up and dry that way.

It is preferred to dry your towels and bathrobes in the shade not in the direct sunlight. It is very easy for the ultra violet rays and heat to over dry the cotton fibers thus reducing the life of your towels.

How to care for your bed linens

How to care for your bed linens

Congratulations on the purchase of your beautiful and exclusive bed linens and towels from Bea e Martina! To ensure that your product remains good as new and lasts a long time, here are a few helpful tips:

Bed Linen:

Washing

The more you wash it the better pure linen will become. When cared for correctly, high quality italian linen will last many years. It is advised that you launder fine linen at least once a week on a warm wash setting using a gentle laundering detergent. The fastest way to wear out your bed linen is by neglecting to wash it on a regular basis. Natural oil and moisture from the skin is absorbed into the fabric and will degrade it over time. Laundering your linens at home is preferable as compared to sending to Laundry Companies. Wash your linens separately and separate the light and dark colours. Always rinse linen well at the end of the wash cycle.

Detergent

Using a gentle laundering detergent will help to preserve your linen. Keep your whites white by using a detergent with brightening agents, such as a product like Napisan. When adding detergent we recommend being conservative on the amount used per wash.

Drying

The biggest advantage of linen is its durabilty and they way it softens over time the more it's washed. Always check care instructions on the product label before laundering. Line drying linens is preferable, however, if you prefer the feeling of tumble dried sheets, it is best to line dry them to 90% then finish them off in the dryer. Pure linen will feel softer when tumble dried. If the sheets are removed from the tumble dryer and laid flat or folded while still warm they may not require ironing. It is important to use a low to medium heat being careful not to over dry the fibres, over time this will cause the yarns to become brittle.

Shrinkage

Our products have a standard allowance for shrinkage. We only use the highest quality fabrics made from natural fibres, sourced mostly from Europe. All our fabrics are tested and manufactured to allow for shrinkage in the first wash and tumble dry. Shrinkage, in some cases can be as much as 15% and the product may initially seem to be the wrong size. However a 60 degree medium wash and a warm tumble dry (where applicable) will shrink the product to the correct size and fit. Although the majority of shrinkage happens in the first wash, it can take up to three washes for products to fully shrink.

Ironing

A good quality steam iron makes ironing cotton bed linen much easier. Iron cottons on a warm-hot setting, but always check the care label first for the ironing recommendation. We recommend to iron bed linen when it is damp either from washing, or after spraying with water from a spray bottle (like our fragrant linen ironing water).

Avoid using harsh starches when you iron as this will coat the surface of your cotton and affect the true beauty and softness of the fabric. Spritzing bed linen with scented linen water assists in removing heavy set creases and also adds a freshness for a calming sleeping experience.

How to care for pillows and duvets

How to care for pillows and duvets

Our Brinkhauss collection of duvets and pillows are amongst the finest in the world. To take proper care of your pillows and duvets, we recommend the following care tips:

Pillows

Airing

Once a month we recommend that you remove your down pillow from the pillow case and place it outside in the fresh air. Gently move the filling around and ruffle the down or feather clusters from any lumpy spots. For best results we recommend air your pillow out for 12-24 hours on the clothes line.

Dry Cleaning

We advise having all of our goose down pillows professionally dry cleaned, to preserve the down, and ensure that it is washed suitably. Cleaning your pillow will remove the impurities that are trapped in the filling, and you will find that after it is cleaned, much of your pillow’s original spring and loft will return.

Down Duvets

Airing

It is important to maintain a down quilt in order to prolong its life. The first thing to remember is to fluff or shake your down quilt regularly to expand the down clusters with air and renew their loft. Airing the quilt is also an important part of down care. We recommend removing your down quilt from the quilt cover and airing it outside for a few hours twice a year. This will maintain its freshness. A handy time to do this is when you are washing or changing your quilt covers. To achieve the best results air in warm weather with a slight breeze. In addition, exposure to sunlight will help eradicate any mildew spores or dust mites. In the off-season, always store your down quilt in a breathable bag in a well-ventilated area. Lastly, where ever possible, it is recommended to avoid sitting or lying on the down, since this will only crush the delicate down filaments. Over time this will cause the down quilt to flatten and lose warmth.

Dry Cleaning

we advise having all of our goose down quilts professionally dry cleaned, to preserve the down, and ensure that it is washed suitably. Cleaning your quilt will remove the impurities that are trapped in the filling, and you will find that after it is cleaned, much of your quilt’s original spring and loft will return.

Be sure to check that the dry cleaner launders and cleans your quilt only. We are cautious of companies who claim to “rejuvenate” your quilt, as we have seen cases where they top up your quilt with inferior duck down and/or feather.

Enjoy your luxurious down duvets and pillows!

How to care for lingerie and delicates

Our lingerie collections and baby delicates are made 100% of cotton and some have percentage of micromodal. Here are some quick tips to ensure that your lingerie and delicates remain in pristine shape and last for a long time:

Always wash your lingerie and delicates at home.

Unless otherwise specified on the garment care label, hand wash in warm water using laundry soap or a detergent without enzymes

Use a gentle plunging action and avoid rubbing

Do not hand wring or tumble dry

Dry out of direct sunlight (dry lace flat)

Iron on a cool setting if necessary.

To avoid dye transferring to other garments, always wash them separately

When washing lace, lingerie, and other delicate items in the washing machine, always follow the machine manufacturers’ instructions and use the delicate or gentle cycle

To minimise the risk of damage to your delicate items, always place them in a laundry bag when laundering in the washing machine.

Selecting the Right Towel For Your Home

Selecting the Right Towel For Your Home

The right towel selection can make a difference

You know how one thing leads to another when redoing your home and it’s those little things sometimes make the biggest difference?  That little thing can be your towel selection — bath towels, bath mats, kitchen towels, cleaning towels.

Turkish cotton towels, considered the world’s most luxurious towels, are made from cotton that is only grown in the Aegean region of Turkey.  Their strength comes from the region’s long cotton fibres that create strong threads to endure use and with the amazing ability to cope with the stresses of laundering.  Turkish cotton bath towels are absorbent (but not as absorbent as Egyptian cotton), so they are ideal for warm climates with excessive moisture, so perfect for the United Arab Emirates.

Before we select our perfect towel, we have to understand GSMs, this is one area that often misunderstood.

What does GSM mean?

GSM means ‘Grams per Square Meter” and is the standard measurement for the weight, density and quality of all fabrics.  The lower the GSM value, the lighter and thinner the towel.  But all may have a relevant purpose.

  • 300-400 GSM –the towels are lighter and thinner. But, depending on its use, you might want a lower GSM for a gym or kitchen towel. A lightweight, quicker-drying beach towel might be around 350 GSM, for instance.
  • 400-600 GSM – This medium weight is great for beach, bath and guest towels. Each consecutive gram weight – 400, 500, 600 – gets a little heavier, and a little more absorbent.
  • 600-900 GSM – This is a premium, luxury weight. The towel is denser, heavier, more absorbent, and will probably take a little longer to dry.

If your towels have lost their fluff, it may be because of silicone build up from commercial fabric softeners.  Need to bring back the fluff factor? Start with your regular detergent and add 1/2 cup of baking soda and 1 cup of white vinegar to the rinse cycle.  You’ll find this home remedy for putting the fluff back into your favourite towels.
